If anyone, like me, had assumed that the Vampire Diaries mid-season finale would see Bonnie finally reunited with her friends, then we would all have been wrong. No, the show had decided that its first fully-committed Christmas episode would be a sad one, full of tragic reveals, sad callbacks to a simpler festive season and absolutely no progress in getting Bonnie out of 1994.
Kai also has magic, serving the dual purpose of bringing down the Mystic Falls no-magic barrier and making Kai a much more threatening presence in a world full of vampires. Jo has magic too, though, and a huge part of me is hoping that all four of the Gemini clan will make it out of the season alive.
After watching the series finale, Redditor SystemZee \"decided to start rewatching the series, and during episode 2 of season 1, (I) heard a familiar phrase.\" Damon says, \"That's for me to know and for you to dot dot dot\" to Stefan. In the series finale, Katerine says the same thing to Damon and Stefan, a clear reference to the phrase used in the first season.
This is just one of the multiple ways the writers tie the end of the series to the start. The Vampire Diaries includes many references to earlier episodes in later seasons, so that upon a rewatch fans will notice something they didn't notice the first time through. This clever writing is a great way to ensure fans will enjoy and be engaged with the series even though they have seen it once before.
Redditor rurohalen noticed a number of hidden details throughout the series and shared them with the The Vampire Diaries subreddit. One was in season 3 episode 16 when, in a \"flashback right before Damon appears for the first time, a crow lands on a gravestone.\" This calls back to season 1 episode 1 when a crow, compelled by Damon, lands on Elena's adoptive parents' grave. The addition of the crow is also a call back to the book series, where Damon turns into a crow.
Redditor rurohalen makes another connection between the books and the TV series in season 7 episode 18. The character of Bonnie in the TV series has the last name Bennett, but rurohalen points out that in \"'One Way or Another' Bonnie is listed at the hospital as 'Bonnie McCullough,' which is her last name in the book series.\"
Reddit user rurohalen discovered another interesting detail in the 1st episode of season 8 in that \"Damon reading Fifty Shades of Grey, pokes fun at Ian Somerhalder,\" who plays Damon. This is a detail that fans of Ian Somerhalder may pick up on as Somerhalder showed interest in the part of Christian Grey when it was announced that a film adaptation of the book was in the works and was thought to be a front runner for the part, but was ultimately not chosen.
In season 8 episode 16, Stefan sacrifices himself and dies at the age of 171. Redditor rurohalen points out that the age that Stefan dies at \"is the total number of episodes in The Vampire Diaries series,\" which is an interesting detail placed in the series finale of the show.
In season 8 episode 10, a hidden detail can be found in the form of a song choice. Vicki is found in Damon's subconscious and as she appears, a familiar song is played in the background. The song that plays is \"Enjoy The Silence\" by Anberlin, which one Redditor noticed is the same song that is playing when \"Damon is dancing with Vicki\" in season 1 episode 6.
Based on the same-named book series authored by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural adolescent drama television series created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. The CW broadcast the first episode of the series on September 10, 2009, and it ran for eight seasons, airing 171 episodes till it was cancelled on March 10, 2017.
The Vampire Diariesofficially turns 10 years old today, and like any 10-year-old it's had its fair share of shining moments and moments we'd all rather forget. But overall, The CW drama delivered eight seasons of amazing episodes that make us want to watch and rewatch them all (when we aren't catching up with our favorite TVD vets on Legacies, of course).
1. \"Haunted\" (Season 1, Episode 7)Does anyone do a Halloween episode better than The Vampire Diaries Though the stakes were always high on this show, \"Haunted\" marked the first time that a major character bit the dust, showing just how easily any of our favorite teens could be killed off. As the troubled one of the group, Vicki (Kayla Ewell) was an easy target for Damon, who caused her human death, but no one could have predicted that she would be turned into a vampire and then mercilessly staked by Stefan all in the same day. RIP Vicki!
5. \"The Sun Also Rises\" (Season 2, Episode 21)\"The Sun Also Rises\" had it all: death, betrayal, life-altering revelations, and Klaus at his most delectably villainous. The entire season had been building up the sacrificial ritual, which lived up to the hype as the temperamental original hybrid picked off his three \"goddesses\" -- Elena, Jenna (Sara Canning), and Jules (Michaela McManus) -- one by one. The episode, which broke our hearts with Jenna's tragic death, proved the series wasn't afraid to venture into bold, new directions.
6. \"The Reckoning\" (Season 3, Episode 5)No villain was more wickedly fun than Klaus, who turned Senior Prank Night into one of the most tense, dramatic, and exhilarating episodes of Vampire Diaries' electric eight seasons. A gripping hour from start to finish, \"The Reckoning\" produced several iconic moments, like that neck snap heard around the world and Stefan flipping off his humanity switch.
7. \"Dangerous Liaisons\" (Season 3, Episode 14)One of the things The Vampire Diaries did best was center episodes around town events that brought all their characters together, and one of the greatest instances of this storytelling device was the dazzling Mikaelson Ball in Season 3. Not only did it establish the powerful family of original vampires as serious enemies, it flawlessly juggled each character's complicated storylines as they all twirled around each other on the dance floor.
Fantastic episode with fantastic acting all around! I said that if they give the characters an opportunity for redemption all would be forgiven for the crappier moments in the first half of this season. So glad that Julie and the writers get that forgiveness is the key. Now I have great hope for the rest of the season and for the series ending as it should. This has to be one of the most important episodes of the entire series. I love my TVD again! My grade for this episode is A+
For all you Stelena fans out there, Elena and Stefan's first time together was romance goals. Though they were at odds during the episode (after having the classic \"I'm a vampire, you're a human, we can't be together\" argument every couple goes through), Elena tells the younger Salvatore brother she loves him and the two have sex for the first (and definitely not last) time.
What do you get when you mix a hybrid and a werewolf The Vampire Diaries spinoff series, The Originals. During one of The Vampire Diaries' crossover episodes (which led right into the spinoff series), vampire Klaus hooks up with werewolf Hayley in a very random yet very hot plot twist. The tryst results in Hayley getting pregnant, which sets The Originals in motion and leads to many more wondrous on-screen sex scenes.
