In a previous article we looked at the issues facing the film industry in Scotland .
Some of the issues are very simple, like the knock-on effect of the well publicised collapse of distribution company Optimum Releasing, and the legal implications of websites like Scouterside and Independent Film Directory listing potential locations, and who can and cannot be credited for film production. But others are less straightforward, and although they're not copyright or royalty infringement issues, they're still quite important and could, if left unchecked, have a serious impact on the Scottish film industry and its future.
Some of these issues are the legal consequences of the digital age, some are quite simple and some are very complex, all of which need to be addressed at some point in the future, but for the time being, we're going to look at five of the most important issues that the Scottish film industry is facing.
1. The credit system
The most important thing is that the Scottish film industry is still at a very early stage. We haven't even got a proper industry structure, and this point is the most important one, as those of you who've done your film study will know that the film industry is pretty much a pyramid system, at the top are the producers, then there are the company owners, then the directors, and finally the cinematographers, editors and sound engineers.
But what happens when it's their turn to be in need of a credit? Well, what happens then is that it's the companies who own those individuals who will want to get their name on the film.
And companies pay for their stars, so to get a star to work on a film can cost anything up to £1 million. And so at the bottom of the pyramid sits the individual, where their film is just as important to them as their next pay cheque.
So as the pyramid is built, then so is the debt.
I am running a PC with Windows 7 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. I am wondering how to end the trial period and convert to a full copy of Photoshop CS6. I tried closing down Photoshop, which produced a message telling me to return the disk. I did that, but the same message returned. How can I end this?
